Changing the size of the reinforcing bars


We now need to change the size of the reinforcing bars so that they are able to better resist the forces applied on them. As for the steel plates, we need to select all reinforcing bars (first make sure that the rebar button is activated. After this, call the geometry and materials menu (button ) and change the bar diameter from 0.02 to 0.04 and close the window. Activate the mesh (if not already active) and start iConc as previously. After the calculation has been performed, select the menu ResultsSteel relative stresses as before. The stresses should look as shown in Figure 21. We now see that the steel stresses are all red, without any yielding. The concrete relative stresses are shown in Figure 22. The blue compression vectors now clearly indicate the path followed by the forces from the loading plates to the supports.
